God is Listening! Lets pray together today!

“The Lord is my Shephard, I shall not want.”

I wasted so much time worrying, so many sleepless nights roiled by anxiety. Earthly events: war, politics, the innocent suffering, the decay of the natural world. Closer to home: the decline of my aging body, financial insecurity and the uncertain prospects of our children . . .

I have little or no control over these things, but all fall under your authority.

You never promised us an easy life—didn’t have one yourself. But you did promise nothing on earth can turn aside your desire for us to spend eternity by your side.

Command me, as you once did your apostles, not to worry.

Send your Holy Spirit into my heart to replace my earthly anxiety. Give me Faith.

I should fear only one thing: disappointing You.

More Prayers from Anthony

Thank you Father for the mysteries of the universe, this verdant planet, my comfortable home, my beautiful family, the people I work with, friends and neighbors.

Thank you for all the experiences of my life, all the opportunities to learn, to help each other.

Thank you for revealing yourself to me and bringing me purpose, down to the smallest details of my life, those things no one sees but you.

Thank you Jesus, for your sacrifice to make me worthy to receive God’s love and for saving a place for me at your table in paradise.

[Previously published as "One Hundred Prayers" under the pen name Anthony Eckshar MD]

On March 20, 2020, anticipating the struggle of a lifetime against Covid pneumonia in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where I worked, I resolved to say a prayer a day for a hundred days.  Over the next two years, my partners and I witnessed the deaths of over 400 patients from Covid pneumonia despite the highest levels of life support we could provide.  I survived the fear, exhaustion, dehumanization and anger I experienced along the way only through my commitment to prayer.  In this book, I record 272 of these prayers and the story of what happened to our patients, their families and our ICU team.  I learned that the only thing required to receive the gift of faith is to pray for it, and that even a regular person like me can call forth miracles in God’s name.
